Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry

Considered to be 'the funny one' because of his unprecedented ability to turn everything into a joke, an ability he developed when his parents split up (because his parents got the same interest in men).
He works as a data-processor, being promoted to chief-processor and responsible for the WENUS and ANUS (both of which are abbrevations ofcourse). However he feels his job is not important enough ("If I don't input those numbers... it doesn't really make any difference.").
His love life is a terrible mess, and he constantly falls back on Janice even though everyone thinks she's annoying and he's dumped her ... four times?
He knows Ross since college, and somehow ended up in the apartment opposite his sister, Monica (and also ends up doing alot more with her). He had a roommate, Kip, who was the odd-man-out and when he left, Joey moved in.
Joey & Chandler get along great, probably because they have the same superficial view of women, which has resulted in their sacred act of watching 'Baywatch'.

Matthew Perry was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, on 19th August 1969 but was raised in Ottawa, Canada.
He was a pretty good tennisplayer in his early teens, and moved to LA when he was 15 to follow that career but started acting instead.
He has had some movie roles, but has yet to make a mark in the movie history.

Joey Tribbiani, played by Matt Le Blanc

The not so well-educated italian guy whose jokes and most thoughts are sex-related.
He's trying to get along in the actor business, but isn't doing too well. His best gig was on a soap in which he played a brainsurgeon (!), but was killed off when he started improvising the script.
He does have a talent to make everyone feel better with words and actions, but have never been able to keep a romantic relationship going.
He comes from a very, very, big family with lot's of sisters, so many that Chandler couldn't remember which one he'd fooled around with.

Matt Le Blanc was born on 25th July 1965 in Newton, Massachusetts, and contrary to his character was the only child.
In case he fails as an actor, he's a trainer carpenter (you wouldn't think so after Joey's masterpeice), but judging by his sucessfull role in 'Lost in Space' I doubt that'll be necessary for a while.
He tried live as a model, but being too short he started acting in commercials, including one legendary for Heinz ketchup.
Other interests includ cars, parachut jumping, motorcyckles and landscape photography.
Matt made a blooper in 'TOW the Five Steaks and an Eggplant', when he was suppose to answer the phone when Jade called, but he accidently fell off the couch. TPTB liked it enough so they kept it like that.

Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer

Ross is the more depressing one of the bunch. Not alot of things work out for him.
First of all hiswife, Carol, turned lesbian and moved in with her lover Susan, but not after getting pregnant with Ross' child. That experienced turned Ross a little over-jealous.
He has been in love with Rachel since college, but for different reasons have never been able to tell her. Other than that his love life has been pretty limited.
He works as a palaeontologist at a museum, which he loves.
His sister is Monica, and he lives in an aparatment near the bunch (not sure if they've said how close).

David Schwimmer was born 12th November 1966 in Queens, New York, but was raised in LA.
He started acting in hi-school and did a role in a school-play ('West Side Story'), and studied theatre in Chicago's Northwestern University.
During creation of 'Friends', TPTB remembered David from a previous audition and he was the only one in the cast offered the job without audition.

Rachel Greene, played by Jennifer Aniston

Rachel is the one character who has changed the most during the show.
When we first saw her in the pilot she had just dumped her dental-fiancé at the alter, a choice which among other things cut her off from her parents and their money.
Since then she's had to change her expensive lifestyle, get a job and become an independant woman.
Her first job was as a waitress (and a lousy one at that) at the Central Perk (with Gunther), then she got a job at Bloomingdales.
Jennifer Aniston was born on 11 February 196X in Sherman Oaks, California.
She spent her childhood in Greece but moved with her father, John, to NY when he got a role in a TV series, incidentally the same one Joey was in.
She attended the infamous 'Fame'-school (ok, the 'New York School for Perorming Arts'), graduated in '87, and had an evening job as a waitress (hope she did a better job than her character).
After moving to LA she got some jobs, but her agent said she was overweight so after slimming about 15 kg. she went for audiotion for 'Friends' for the part of Monica.
She has done some movie parts but in my opinion they have been too close to her character in 'Friends' to really lead anywhere.

Phoebe Buffay, played by Lisa Kudrow

Phoebe is the off-beat one, with a weird sense of humor and a gift to always say what's on her mind.
She used to live with Monica, but moved to her own place when she was fed up with her 'control freak' attitude, but they are still very good friends.
She had a pretty dramatic childhood which includs suicide, incarceration, a twin-sister she doesn't speak to and threesomes, which probably explains her freakyness.
She worked as a masseuse, but got fired due to a misunderstanding.
Her major interest is music and writing ... unusual songs, some of which are so right on the money it's scary.
(who can forget her story about farm animals)
But her love life is... dry! There's always something major wrong with her boyfriends, but to help out her brother she agreed to be surrogate mother.

Lisa Kudrow was born 30th July 196X in Encino, California, but was raised in Tarzana, California.
She was doing very well in the academic world (she has a degreee in biology), but thanx (and I mean that!) to her brother's friend, the comedian/actor Jon Lovitz (who guest-starred in 'Friends btw), she turned her attention to performing instead.
I first saw her as the... less than talented waitress, Ursula, at Riff's in 'Mad About You' and no matter what she did, it got me laughing. And Ursula have even appeared in 'Friends', first when Joey wanted to date her (both Helen Hunt and Leila Kenzle from 'Mad About You' appeared in the same episode, 'TOW the Two Parts') and again when Phoebe found out who their real mother was ('TOW the Jellyfish').
Lisa was really pregnant during the 4th season, and what a typical 'Friends' way to incorporate it in the series. The son, Julian Murray, was born on 7th May '98.

Monica Geller, played by Courtney Cox

Monica is a control freak, and can't let anything just be a mess, although she has tried.
Out of everyone, she and Chandler are the most down-to-Earth characters, which has resulted in a very interesting relationship.
Back in hi-school she used to be a fat girl, but it's pretty hard to see due to the lovely (and thin) Courtney Cox.
Not too successfull with relationships, but her one big love with the 25 years older Richard was doing great up to the point when she wanted kids.
Her mother is a very demanding woman who doesn't hold anything back when she's criticizing Monica for not being married with children yet.
She works as a chef and have been fired twice.

Courtney Cox was born 15th June 196X (I still won't say how old women are) in Birmingham, Alabama, the youngest of four children.
When she studied architecture she was encouraged to move to NY, where she was 'discovered' and signed up for Ford Modelling Agency. (and aren't we all happy for that!)
The first time I saw her was in the Bruce Springsteen video, but I didn't _really_ notice her until she appeared as Alex Keatons girl-friend in 'Family Ties', but the big break came in 'Ace Ventura' opposite Jim Carrey.
Lately ofcourse she's more famous for her role as the bitchy Gale Weathers in the 'Scream' duo/trio. And to make all us guys disappointed she's now engaged to her co-star in 'Scream', David Arquette, who guest-starred as Ursulas/Phoebes stalker in 'TOW the Jam'.
During the audition she first read for Rachel, but insisted to try out Monica as well (and again, I'm very happy for that too!).
In case you missed it, this is my favourite 'Friend' and actress of the show, not only for the fact that Courtney just happen to be very sexy but she also has a talen for playing so different, and sometimes unusual, characters and basicilly making life a little easier to endure :)

Recurring Characters

No series would be interesting or fun without other people coming back to annoy the cast again and again.
These are the ones I think have been of some importance to the show and characters.

Janice, played by Maggie Wheeler.

This woman is 100% annoying, but for some reason Chandler ends up with her and dumps her over and over. When he realised that the way he was leading his life it would lead to an early and lonely death he decided to try _again_, but by then she was already married and pregnant.
Everyone remembers her and loves harassing Chandler abour her.

Richard Burke, played by Tom Selleck.

An old friend of the Geller family who hired Monica to cater a party he had just after his divorce. But they fell in love and almost gave her mother & father, Richards best friend, a heartattack when they announced it.
Richard already have kids and felt he was too old to do it over again, but Monica must have one before she dies, so they decided to part. But they got together a couple of times. As friends. In bed.
Then Monica met his kid and almost fell for him too, but when they kissed she kept thinking of Richard, which was too awkward.

Susan & Carol, played by Jessica Hecht & Jane Sibbett.

Ross and Carol used to be married. But at the point the show beginns she have just moved to her lesbian lover, Susan, who she had (at Ross' request) spent some time with, but if he knew then...
After they split up, Carol (then played by Anita Barone) announed she was pregnant, and for the next 9 months the threesome had to go through what other people considers 'normal' in a pretty weird way. That, and the fact that she stole his wife, have made Ross really disliking Susan and even competes with her.
(who can forget the lamaze class when Carol, the pregnant one, wasn't there and Ross had to be the mother to train Susan :))

Gunther, played by James Michael-Tyler.

Gunther works (some say own, but Terry is the owner) at the Central Perk, and like Ross has a secret crush on Rachel, and is always saying things about her just so she won't here them.
He's even been invited to one of the not so successfull partys for Rachel.
When Ross did something he shouldn't have ('WE WERE ON A BREAK!') with another woman, Gunther was the first one to 'accidently' ('I wasn't suppose to?') leak the information back to Rachel.

Emily Waltham, played by Helen Baxendale

Emily is Ross' English sweetheart that he met after breaking up with Rachel. Rachel doesn't like it ofcourse, but unlike his previous girlfriend she does like Emily.

The Xerox Girl (Chloe), played by Angela Featherstone.

This woman was at first only referred to as the Xerox-girl, and Chandler & Joey have often talked about going down there just to see her.
One time we actually saw them hanging out there, and she asked them both (which lead to some interestin hipothetical scenario studies) to a party. At the party she met Ross and the initiative-like (which btw. I think is a good quality!) woman she was gave him a few drinks and one thing led to another and Ross have regretted it ever since.

Ugly Naked Guy, not played by anyone

A guy that lives across the street. You can clearly see into his apartment from the girls livingroom and they have spent alot of timekilling watching him do this and this, but never seen him.
